A new malware has been discovered and is “in the wild”, meaning that some antivirus / antimalware vendors are not detecting it.
This is a new twist on ransom ware or as I like to refer to it as extortion ware. The notice received after visiting an infected site is a “Copyright Violation Alert.”
These fake copyright violation notices advise that they have determined you have illegally downloaded files onto your computer and that you must pay their pre-defined amount of $400 or you will be sued. Part of the process of paying the ransom is to enter your credit card information. However it has been confirmed that there is no payment processing associated to the action and the hacker is likely just capturing your credit card data to be used later.
