Attack Computer Wiz

A Security & Technology Weblog

To some, Microsoft's "Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration" is an announce. It was introduced in Windows Server 2003 as a standard configuration 'out of the box installation'. In server 2003 it was very easy to remove by simply navigating to "Add or Remove Programs" > "Windows Components" then un-check the "Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration" box and click "Next".

They continued making the 'feature' part of the standard installation in Windows Server 2008. However they changed how you go about removing it. It is still quite simple, maybe even more so, but you need to know where to look.

To disable this feature simply:

  1. Right click on your 'Computer' icon and choose 'Manage'
  2. You should see, on the right hand side toward the bottom, 'Configure IE ESC', click that link (See Image 1)
  3. Next you are brought to a screen that allows you to turn it off by selecting the appropriate radio button and clicking OK. (See Image 2)

It really is that easy!
