Installation of Active Directory Administrative Tools on older versions of Windows was quite simple. Simply find AdminPack.msi on the Windows 2000 or 2003 CD and double click. However installation on Windows 7 is not that basic, but still is quite simple.

Microsoft has changed the terminology slightly. The new package is called “Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7” or “RSAT”. Your first step is to download and install the RSAT package for your version of Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit). You can do so from this link (Microsoft).

Once installed the below steps are required in order to display “Administrative Tools” in your Start Menu and configure which tools you would like to have displayed.

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Programs.
2. In “Programs and Features” click “Turn Windows features on or off” (it’s on the left side).
3. Expand “Remote Server Administration Tools” and select the tools you wish to install.

That is it, now just click on your Start menu and you will see the tools that you have installed.
